Brendan was born jaundiced and has been treated for liver problems his whole life. At two months, doctors at St. Louis Children’s Hospital diagnosed him with liver disease and hepatitis. At four months, he had a cerebral hemorrhage due to the liver condition preventing his blood from clotting and had brain surgery to correct the hemorrhage. Brendan’s liver condition was stabilized by supplements but in June 1999 his condition worsened and he was put on a transplant list. The disease progressed much more quickly than anticipated and a transplant was quickly needed. His mother was found to be a good match. In September that year, Brendan successfully received a portion of his mother’s liver. Despite some infections, Brendan bounced back quickly. Brendan still has some battles to overcome due to the hemorrhage, but fights everyday to live a normal life. Brendan and his family come to Dance Marathon every year!
