The four words a parent never imagines they would hear, “your child has cancer.” That’s what Armoni Carpenter’s mom, Val, was told at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
In just one day, the Carpenter’s world would come crashing down. Armoni was just getting ready to start Second Grade. He was enjoying the last few days of summer when one afternoon in August, Armoni was coughing a lot and had severe pain in his chest. His mom called their pediatrician and took him straight to the doctor. In just a few hours, Armoni and his parents were at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, about to receive news they never imagined they would hear. Doctors found a tumor in Armoni’s chest that was cancerous. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma, a form of cancer.
Armoni was admitted to the intensive care unit and immediately started on chemotherapy. He completed his treatment and is now cancer free.
He enjoys watching television, playing video games, and reading. His mom says that he kept his chin up and is in good spirits despite all he went through.
